What is a Sales Funnel
A sales funnel is a step-by-step process that allows you to bring your potential customer one step closer to your offer and a buying decision through a series of marketing actions like automated emails, videos, articles and landing pages that will do the selling for you – source wild audience
So what does this mean exactly…
Just like fishing we need to start with “bait” for our potential customer. The bait will be a useful piece of information that our target market will be looking for as they research the solution for a problem they may or may not be aware they have.
Let’s move that to the real world:
Your product: Weight loss solution that helps IBS and controls cravings.
Your Target: Overweight people with stomach problems (IBS) that can’t control their overeating.
Your Bait: A FREE PDF: 5 Simple Tricks to Curb your Cravings and Beat Indigestion.
Their Cost: Their email address.
This is a very typical funnel entrance. This could be a simple stand alone optin form or an opt-in form in the middle of an article.
(An opt-in form is just a place for people to enter their email address to receive your information.)
Once your prospect has opted in and you have delivered the promised information.
The next step would be to offer a low fee meal plan or diet guide or exercise plan for under $30

If they purchase this, you now have a buyer and you could continue through an elaborate series of other offers or take them straight to your main product which they will be much more likely to purchase having already purchased from you before.
If they don’t purchase then you will communicate to them through a series of emails giving them more valuable info about their problem and other simple solutions building up to offering them your main product as the ultimate solution.
Why traditional websites don’t really work anymore
Now, I am sure you are saying to yourself that your current website does this all in one place. And it may very well do that.
And while that may be true you are not controlling the flow of information and the potential buyer is not being guided through the most optimum sales process that can create a higher potential of closing more sales.
Most websites are confusing and give too many options to the user to find exactly what they are looking for. It is wiser to create multiple landing pages guiding your target market to precisely what they are looking for and then you introducing the congruent products that you want them to buy.
Should you totally get rid of your website? No, I personally think you should still have a website.
You should drive traffic to your website through multiple landing pages so you can capture emails and segment your customer base to communicate more precisely to them.
Your website is your little piece of Internet real estate and you attract people to it using social media, video and landing pages.
You provide valuable content interlaced with links leading to sales funnels.
Now you still have a “website” but it is also the entrance to your sales funnel in multiple ways.
